This is not your typical wedding cake! A vintage
recipe, this wedding cake is sure to delight your guests and
have them asking where you bought it!
Most wedding cakes today are simple white cakes
with decorative frosting. This elegant wedding cake recipe is
packed full of flavors, fruits and nuts.
Ingredients:

4 1/2 cups flour, sifted

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon cloves
-
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
-
1/2 teaspoon mace
-
1 pound crisco
-
1 pound brown sugar
-
10 well beaten eggs
-
1/2 pound candied cherries, cut in half
-
1 pound seeded and diced dates
-
1 pound raisins
-
1 pound currants
-
1/2 pound citron thinly sliced
-
1/2 pound candied orange and or lemon pee
-
1/2 pound nuts, chopped
-
1 cup honey
-
1 cup molasses
-
1/2 cup apple cider
Sift flour, baking powder and spices together 3
times to ensure it is well combined.
In a separate bowl, cream the Crisco and brown
sugar until fluffy. Add the nuts, eggs, fruit, honey, molasses
and cider. mix well. slowly add the flour mixture mixing well
after each addition.
Grease and line cake pans with parchment paper. (for
a terraced wedding cake use cake pans of graduating sizes)
pour cake batter in prepared pans and bake at 250
degrees about 2 1/2-3 hours, or until toothpick inserted in center
of cake comes out clean.
cool in pans for 20 minutes before turning onto
wire rack to cool completely. frost with Ornamental
Wedding Cake Icing.
