This was an idea that I had for halloween. We were
having a party and I was trying to think of a treat or craft idea
for the kids to make. These chocolate filled marshmallows get a
nice crispy and sweet coating from the simple syrup.
Marshmallow suprises candy are a great cooking recipe
to make with kids and are the perfect craft idea for a fun school
activity or on a rainy day. Decorate them acording to the holiday
season (Christmas, Halloween, Easter, etc) for a festive candy
treat.
Marshmallow Suprise Candy Treats
- 24 marshmallows
- 24 chocolate kisses
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- food coloring
- candy sprinkles
- place the water and sugar in a sauce pan and bring to boil over medium heat. when simple syrup reaches a boil remove from heat and allow to cool.
- make a small slit with a knife in the bottom of each marshmallow and insert
a chocolate kiss.
- Decorating ideas:
1. dip (or use a brush and paint) the marshmallows in the simple syrup
and roll in colored candy sprinkles to fit the holiday season
2. separate simple syrup into bowls and mix a few drops of food coloring
into each. use small paint brushes to decorate the marshmallows with festive
holiday designs.
when I made these, I used a basting brush to paint the sides of the marshmallows
with the syrup and rolled them in candy sprinkles then used a small brush
to paint designs on the flat tops (I made them for a halloween party but
they would make great Christmas candies or craft ideas for kids at school
as well!)
(note: when I first made these I made a batch of chocolate ganache and used a
rather large marinade injector to push the ganache into the marshmallows. it
was difficult but can be done if you prefer.)
